Prepping the Coach

So, embarking on this action research is kind of overwhelming. So, I am reading articles and currently gathering resources for data collection during the process. I came across some very valuable sites and I thought that I would share a few of the resources I am contemplating using for the coaching cycles.

1) Ms. Houser-I stumbled across this site when I was looking for ways to decorate the PD room at my school. Boy did I luck up.  This site has lots of useful information and creative ideas for those who coach. For my action research I think her initial conversation, planning, goal setting and results tool, and the observation tool will invaluable during this process. They are already created but can be edited in Word to meet my needs.

2) What is Cognitive Coaching– This pdf compiles a list of questions that can be asked during the planning and reflection conversations to help encourage teacher reflection.  I will use these questions to help plan and prepare authentic questions for conversations.

3) Kansas Coaching Project– Jim Knight the instructional coach guru is the director of the Kansas Coaching Project. This website offers coaching basics, coaching forms, and articles all related to instructional coaching.

My goal is to put together an Instructional Coaching notebook with forms and resources that I can refer back to during this project and for coaching work in the future. Wish me luck!

  1. Hi Kandis! It sounds like you are finding some valuable resources that will help you with the practice side of the AR Project. It will be great to balance research articles on the importance of coaching with these more practical pieces.
